The Avalon peninsula of Newfoundland might seem like arather unlikely winter birding destination, but for those willing to brave the cold it can be extremely rewarding. We will be treated to flocks of sharp looking Iceland Gulls, with Herring Gulls and Great Black-backed Gulls and Black-headed Gulls. We will be on the lookout for a rarities from Europe such as the recently split Common Gull. On the water we will scope for alcids such as Dovekie, Thick-billed Murre and Black Guillemot.
