Birding Tour FAQ
What do I need to pack for the tour?
You will receive a Tour Information Package upon the confirmation of your booking of the tour, which includes a packing list tailored specifically for the tour and more important information about your travel destination and tour. We recommend bringing a soft sided duffel bag as opposed to a hard-sided suit case it is easier to pack into the vans.
What is included in the tour price?
Accommodation, ground transportation, meals (outside of Canada and USA), park entrance fees, and professional guiding services are included in the tour price unless otherwise stated. Airfare to and from the tour, visa fees, vaccinations, hotel room service and minibars, laundry, travel insurance, excess baggage fees on domestic flights during the tour, tips for hotel lobby staff and local guides/drivers, and soft and alcoholic drinks are not included in the tour price.
What is the pace and what are the fitness requirements?
Unless stated otherwise in the itinerary, the pace of our journeys is designed to be flexible. On most tours, we typically walk 3–6 km per day (2-4 miles), on most tours you will have the option to opt-out of some outings and enjoy a relaxing day around the lodge instead. For those who want more, there are opportunities for longer excursions on some days. All activities are clearly described so you can make informed decisions, and our guides prioritize your safety and comfort at all times.
Can you accommodate special dietary restrictions?
When there’s a special dietary requirement, we inform the providers in advance and ensure you have a clear understanding of how local establishments can accommodate your needs throughout your trip. If that proves challenging, we assist in arranging the necessary provisions for you.
Can you arrange pre/post tour accommodation?
Yes, just let us know and we can arrange pre/post tour accommodation for you.
Should I bring my spotting scope?
Your Meadowlark Birding Tours leader will carry spotting scope from Kowa Sporting Optics and many of our local guides will be equipped with spotting scopes for clients to use; however, you are more than welcome to bring your own. A spotting scope is essential when on a tour that visits regions with lots of open country and wetland birding; it is less necessary on tours that focus on birding in forests.
What are the accommodations like?
We typically stay in clean, comfortable accommodations with hot water, power, and an en suite bathroom and shower. We also feel that being near the best birding area is preferable to being in more luxurious accommodation that is longer drive from the action.
Will sightings be recorded in eBird?
Yes! Before the start of the tour we will ask you for your eBird username or email address associated with your account.
If I still have questions, can you help me?
YES! If something is still unclear to you please reach out to Gavin McKinnon ([email protected]) and he will get back to you as soon as possible.
