Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
The tour will begin this evening with a welcome dinner in Cold Lake. After dinner we will spend some time exploring nearby marshes for species such as Yellow Rail, Sedge Wren and both LeConte's Sparrow and Nelson's Sparrow.
Day 2-3: Birding Cold Lake
We will have an early start each morning to fully take advantage of the dawn chorus. We will explore the rural roads surrounding Cold Lake for Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Nashville Warbler, Connecticut Warbler and Palm Warbler. We will also make visits to Cold Lake Provincial Park where we will have a good chance to some eastern species at the edge of their range such as Blackburnian and Chestnut-sided Warblers. Later in the day our focus will shift to non-passerines. Cold Lake has good potential for rarities such as Pacific Loon and Sabine's Gull in late spring and areas south of town can be productive for lingering shorebirds.
Day 4: Lac La Biche & Departure
On the final morning of the tour we will travel an hour and a half west to Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park. Located in the middle of Lac La Biche this park has extensive old-growth forests that are also inhabited by several warbler species. Here we will keep a special ear out for the similar sounding Cape May, Bay-breasted and Black-and-white Warblers. The tour will end at noon today.
